MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Adam Ortiz has spent years studying not just how Latin dance moves, but why it moves the way it does. Deeply committed to honoring the cultural roots that gave birth to salsa, mambo, and the partner traditions that define them, Adam brings both reverence and clarity to everything he teaches.
His specialty is on2 partnerwork and connection, the invisible conversation that happens between two people sharing a floor. Rather than throwing patterns at his students, Adam teaches leads systematically, laying down the core building blocks first so that confidence grows naturally from understanding rather than repetition alone. His students do not just learn choreography. They learn how to listen, how to invite, and how to hold space for a partner in a way that makes every dance feel like a genuine exchange.
For Adam, great leading is not about control. It is about communication. And great teaching is not about complexity. It is about giving people the tools to find their own voice on the floor.
BORN FROM THE ISLAND.
Isla Son takes its name from son, the foundational Cuban rhythm that gave birth to salsa, mambo, and the partner traditions that have moved generations. Here, that lineage is not background noise. It is the foundation of everything taught on the floor.
Through the guidance of Adam Ortiz, Isla Son brings students back to the core of what Latin dance has always been about: two people in conversation, moving together with intention, feeling the music rather than just counting it. Adam's approach honors the cultural heritage behind every step while making it accessible to anyone willing to show up and learn. The result is a studio where roots run deep and confidence grows naturally.
